Amazing Afghan Food Found in Hicksville, Long Island

We can’t remember the last time we went to an Afghan restaurant and this restaurant made our trip to the island well worth it. Kandahar Grill (@kandahargrill) is a local Afghan restaurant located in Hicksville, LI and is also a crowd favorite!

Beef Kebab and Chicken Tikka Platter

Food 8.5/10
For starters we got their mantu, bolani, and banjan. All the apps were delicious and full of flavor. The manto had the perfect ratio of yogurt sauce, lentils, and filling. The bolani was warm and flaky and the banjan was a cold eggplant appetizer that complimented the warm bread. For the main dishes we got a mix of kebabs and kofta, lamb shank, and chicken shawarma sandwich. The chicken shawarma was served in a pita pocket with their homemade sauce. The chicken itself was great but the sauce was unexpectedly a little bit on the sweeter side (you can try as is, or maybe ask to substitute if you prefer something spicy). It is a great option if you’re on the go! The chicken tikka was very juicy and tender which is sometimes hard to accomplish so this is always a good sign. The kofta kebabs were a little more on the crispy side making it a little more chewier than soft, but the flavors were still there. Lastly the lamb shank with kabuli it was just amazing. It was one of the most flavorful lamb shanks we’ve had and the kabuli was just as good. Can’t wait to go back for some more!

The inside is spacious, with walls full of art in ode to Afghan culture.

Prices are standard and go hand in hand with portion size beautifully.

Service: 10/10
Everything came fresh in a timely matter to our table and the staff/owner were really welcoming.
