Your search for Sudanese food (read: authentic) leads you to Lazeez (@lazeezbrooklyn) in Flatlands, Brooklyn - the ONLY Sudanese restaurant in NYC. The food is amazing and of course, they only use/supply halal meats.

Roast chicken

Food: 9/10
Everything was just phenomenal and well made. We tried the mahshi which is stuffed squash with rice and ground beef - it was so flavorful and the squash is cooked until tender. Their fatiyer (cheese/veggie filled pastry) was soft and had just the right amount of filling. The lentil soup was BOMB - literally the best lentil soup we’ve ever had! It was so creamy and tangy at the same time. The roast chicken was nicely covered in spices and was bursting with flavor and juice. The fried fish was also good. We have never had lahma (Sudanese pan fried meat) but it was so succulent and flavorful. Our favorite dish was the molah na’amiya with kisra which is a yogurt based stew (very reminiscent of chicken tikka masala gravy) eaten with kisra (spongey bread). Lastly we had the lamb sausage that was nicely coated in pepper sauce which made a great bite.

Price: 9/10
Prices are very decent. Nothing really runs more than $12.

Atmosphere: -/-
There’s really only room for two people to sit so there’s not really any dining optional available unless you’re totally down to sit and eat your food there (which we did. We went at 3pm. No one was there.) The place is pretty clean too.

Service: 10/10
The ladies here who run the shop are super sweet and kind. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their food and rightfully so. You order up front and if you’re sitting in, they bring the food to you.
