Our Trek to SāGhar in Port Jefferson

SāGhar is an Indian restaurant that serves fusion cuisine, touching on Spanish, Italian, and American dishes. All meats are halal. The only DISH that is not halal is the lamb shank, which uses wine. But that is slow cooked in its own pot overnight.

Food: 7/10
For context, we drove over 2 hours to try the food here. But for now let’s ignore this and focus on the food. For appetizers which will be posted later, we got the Honey Chili fries and Lollipop Chicken. Both were excellent. The fries were crisp and the sauce was great, and it came in a big bowl as a big portion. The Lollipop Chicken tasted fresh, crispy, and was super juicy. For mains, pictured here we got the Rack of Lamb that came with saffron mashed potatoes. For some reason, the lamb was really mushy and had a weird texture that threw us off. It was good flavor wise though. Next we got the Makhmali Kebab that was very good which consists of saucy, tender chunks of chicken provided with a side of mint chutney. The sauce really defined the dish and we found ourselves constantly drenching the chicken in the sauce. Finally, we tried the Seafood Paella. (Side note: Paella usually contains wine. This one doesn’t.) We weren’t exactly wow’d by it but it was good. Flavor was there but perhaps we weren’t really in the seafood mood.

Price: 5/10
Can be seen as pricey. Portion for the food isn’t bad but quality doesn’t match price point.

Atmosphere: 10/10
Very nice atmosphere for occasions. It’s pretty huge. They have a first floor that’s inside dining and second floor for the outside terrace dining.

Service: 10/10
Servers were excellent and were attentive to our needs. Food came pretty quick too.
