Syrian Cuisine and Korean Cuisine Under One Roof

Syko is the new partially halal Syrian-Korean restaurant the recently opened in Brooklyn’s Windsor Terrace. The concept was created when individuals from two cultures joined as one and wanted to share their love for food with the world. The restaurant has a Syrian menu and a Korean menu so you get to immerse you tastebuds with a little something from each culture.

Chicken Kimbap

Food: 7.5/10
From the Korean menu we got the bulgogi bowl, bibimbap, chicken kimbap, chicken poppers, chicken fatboy sandwich, and the hotteok. Everything tasted really good and made fresh on order. The bulgogi was served hot with a nice marinade that went well with the rice and cold sides of your choice. We also got the vegetarian bibimbap bowl which was full of great veggies topped with an egg and house spicy sauce. The best way to eat it is to mix it all up to enjoy the flavor of the veggies and sauce come together. The kimbab tasted as expected, stuffed with the classic veggies but we really enjoyed the addition of chicken. The chicken poppers were a perfect fun, light and crispy snack on the side. We got the ones coated with a house spicy and tangy sauce and were not disappointed! The chicken fatboy roll was a kind of greasy and although flavor was there, the grease was very distracting. On the other hand, the hotteok (sweet stuffed pancake) was amazing and we could literally eat it all day lol.

From the Syrian menu we ordered grape leaves, veggie kibbeh, meat kibbeh, the shawarma platter, and sujuk sandwich. The grape leaves are rolled fresh in house, they were tangy just the way we like it, however the rice was a little hard possibly due to being in a cold refrigerated setting for some time. It was our first time trying Syrian veggie kibbeh, they were also a little on the hard chewier side but we still enjoyed it. It is made with bulgur wheat and might not be everyones favorite, but still worth a try. The meat kibbeh was absolutely delicious. Shawarma platter was okay just a little on the drier side. White sauce provided definitely helped. And the sujuk sandwich (made with ground sujuk) tasted great alongside the pickled veggies.

Price: 7.5/10
Some items were priced higher than expected, but the food is made fresh and leaves you full.

Atmosphere: 7/10
The space is small, they have window seating for maybe a group of 3 friends. We can see it getting cramped in there during the winter months with people wanting to stay inside to wait for their orders. We also believe that this food is best enjoyed while it’s still hot and fresh vs having to take it home and reheat it so we hope they are able to grow and expand their seating.

Service: 8/10
Because everything is freshly made and the kitchen is small there is an expected wait time for your food, which was still manageable.
